Germany Launches World’s Largest Green Hydrogen Pipeline

Germany has officially launched the world’s largest green hydrogen pipeline, marking a historic step toward replacing fossil fuels in Europe’s energy system. The project will repurpose over 9,000 kilometers (5,600 miles) of existing natural gas pipelines into a continent-wide hydrogen network by the early 2030s.

This system will connect Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and France, transporting clean hydrogen produced using renewable electricity. Unlike natural gas, burning green hydrogen produces zero carbon dioxide emissions, releasing only water vapor.

The European Union has set an ambitious target to produce and import 20 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2030, a move aimed at decarbonizing heavy industries such as steel, chemicals, shipping, and aviation.

In conclusion, Germany’s pipeline project is not just an engineering milestone—it is a cornerstone of Europe’s energy transition, strengthening the continent’s path toward sustainability and climate neutrality.
