Former BJP leader K. Annamalai has raised concerns over the extraordinary security arrangements being put in place for the upcoming NEET UG 2026 retest scheduled for June 21. In a post on ‘X’, he highlighted the scale of measures introduced by the Ministry of Education, suggesting that such scrutiny could add to students’ distress.
According to Annamalai, the arrangements include:
- Two‑tier CRPF + CISF escort with IAF airlift
- Four‑layer CCTV with AI surveillance
- Biometric and facial recognition before entry
- Multiple layers of frisking
- Multi‑level oversight with direct monitoring from the Prime Minister’s Office
He remarked that these measures resemble protocols for acquiring high‑level military‑grade software rather than conducting a student examination. His comments underline the tension between ensuring exam integrity and avoiding undue psychological pressure on candidates.
The NEET retest comes amid heightened scrutiny following allegations of irregularities in earlier exams. The government’s approach reflects its determination to prevent malpractice, but critics warn that excessive surveillance could create an intimidating environment for students.
