Ahead of the NEET UG 2026 re‑examination scheduled for June 21, the Government of India has taken an unprecedented step by restricting access to the messaging and social media app Telegram until June 22. The move, directed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), has been welcomed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) as a measure to safeguard the integrity of the exam.
The restriction covers the day of the re‑examination and its immediate aftermath. In addition, Telegram has been instructed to disable its message‑editing feature for already‑posted messages until June 30. This feature had allegedly been misused by cheating rackets to fabricate post‑facto claims of question paper leaks, undermining public trust in national examinations.
The NTA emphasized that these measures are taken in the interest of public order and to protect students from organized fraud. By curbing the misuse of digital platforms, the government aims to ensure a safe, secure, and transparent conduct of NEET UG 2026.
This development reflects the growing challenge of balancing technology with exam security. While digital platforms have transformed communication, they have also created vulnerabilities that can be exploited. The government’s decisive action signals its commitment to protecting students and restoring confidence in the examination process.
