U.S. and Iran Sign 14‑Point MoU to End Hostilities

In a landmark development, U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have virtually signed a 14‑point memorandum of understanding (MoU) designed to end hostilities between the two nations. The agreement, titled the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran”, immediately came into effect upon signature.

According to reports, the MoU lays out a framework to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and initiate a 60‑day negotiation process aimed at finalizing a broader peace agreement. The upcoming talks are expected to address the lifting of sanctions, Iran’s nuclear program, and the release of frozen assets, alongside commitments for billions of dollars in reconstruction funding.

CNN reported that Trump personally signed the memorandum on Wednesday while meeting French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, during the G7 Summit in Evian. The signing was accompanied by controversy, as critics pointed to the lack of transparency regarding the document’s contents. In response, the U.S. released the full text of the MoU after facing backlash over secrecy.

The 14‑point agreement represents a significant diplomatic breakthrough, offering Tehran immediate economic incentives while setting the stage for a comprehensive settlement. For Washington, it marks a strategic attempt to stabilize the Gulf region, reduce tensions, and reassert U.S. leadership in global diplomacy.
