Zee Entertainment’s Unite8 Sports and FIFA World Cup Bid

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. has announced a bold expansion into sports broadcasting with the launch of four new sports channels under the Unite8 Sports brand. The channels—Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD (Hindi), Unite8 Sports 2, and Unite8 Sports 2 HD (English)—will cover a wide range of sports including football, cricket, kabaddi, badminton, wrestling, and combat sports.
The company is also in advanced talks with FIFA to secure the broadcast and streaming rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico. If successful, Zee would gain one of the most prestigious sporting properties globally, significantly boosting its presence in India’s sports broadcasting market.

This move signals a structural shift in India’s sports ecosystem, long dominated by cricket. By investing in football and other sports, Zee aims to diversify viewership and advertising revenues. The FIFA World Cup, with its massive global audience, could help Zee capture new demographics and strengthen its digital platforms.

Industry analysts note that Zee’s Unite8 Sports launch, combined with its FIFA bid, positions the company as a serious challenger to established players like Star Sports and Sony Sports. The initiative reflects a broader trend of Indian broadcasters seeking premium international rights to expand beyond cricket and tap into the growing appetite for diverse sports content.
