India’s defence modernisation received a major boost on Wednesday as private sector defence firm Nibe Limited successfully tested its long-range **Suryastra rocket systems** at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur. Two variants were trialed — one with a strike range of 150 kilometres and another reaching 300 kilometres. Both achieved exceptional accuracy, with Circular Error Probable (CEP) values of just 1.5 metres and 2 metres respectively, a precision level rarely seen in long-range rocket artillery.
Suryastra is designed as a guided rocket artillery system capable of delivering precision strikes against enemy positions, command centres, radar installations, and logistics hubs deep inside hostile territory. Unlike conventional artillery shells, guided rockets employ advanced navigation and control systems to maintain accuracy across extended ranges.
The 150-km variant is intended for tactical battlefield support and deep-strike operations near conflict zones, while the 300-km version significantly expands India’s stand-off strike capability, enabling forces to target strategic assets far behind enemy lines without exposing troops to direct combat.
Defence experts highlight that such precision reduces collateral damage and enhances the effectiveness of strikes against high-value targets. Globally, rocket artillery systems have become increasingly important in modern warfare, as seen in conflicts where long-range guided munitions are used to disable infrastructure and military assets with pinpoint accuracy.
The successful demonstration underscores the growing role of India’s private defence industry in supporting the government’s **Aatmanirbhar Bharat** initiative. Traditionally dominated by state-run organisations, India’s defence ecosystem is now witnessing greater participation from private firms developing advanced missiles, drones, and artillery systems. With Suryastra’s trials completed, the system is poised to become a key addition to India’s indigenous long-range strike arsenal.
